Selling a MacBook Neo and Choosing the Right Configuration

If your MacBook Neo is no longer the laptop you need, start with its exact configuration before comparing cash offers. “MacBook” covers several different product families, and the Neo has details that are easy to confuse with a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro.

You do not need to become a hardware expert to sell it. You need to identify the computer, describe its condition, and choose the matching options in the quote process. Here is how to do that without relying on the color of the case or the price you remember paying.

Confirm that you have a MacBook Neo

Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. Record the product name and chip information shown, along with the model details available in System Information. If you are unsure where to find those details, Apple explains how to identify your Mac model and serial number.

Apple lists the MacBook Neo with an A18 Pro chip. That makes the chip name a useful check when you are distinguishing it from an M-series MacBook Air or Pro. Select the actual product family in the quote tool rather than choosing a different MacBook because its screen looks a similar size. See Apple's MacBook Neo specifications.

If the computer will not start, do not guess the configuration. Use the identifying information you have and ask GoRoostr for help before submitting it as a different model.

Check storage capacity and Touch ID

Apple lists 256GB and 512GB storage configurations for the Neo, both with 8GB of unified memory. The configurations also differ in their keyboard offering, with Touch ID included on the higher-storage version. Confirm the storage in your Mac's information rather than inferring it from the amount of free space. Apple's configuration details show the differences.

Free space changes as you add or delete files; the installed storage capacity is the specification you need for the quote. A nearly empty 256GB computer should not be entered as a 512GB model because a number on another screen looks close.

Write down the configuration before erasing the Mac. Keep that note with your order information so you can check it again if a question comes up during the sale.

Check the ports against their actual capabilities

The Neo's two USB-C ports do not have identical capabilities. Apple's specifications list a USB 3 port that supports DisplayPort and a USB 2 port with different transfer capabilities. Both support charging. A display connection attempted through the wrong port should not be treated as proof of a failed display output. Check the port diagram and specifications.

When describing a possible port issue, say which port you used, which cable or accessory you tried, and what happened. Use equipment you know works. That gives you a clearer starting point than reporting that “USB-C does not work” after one unsuccessful connection.

Describe the computer you have today

Inspect the screen, lid, corners, keyboard, and trackpad in good light. Separate cosmetic wear from functional issues. Try the camera, microphone, speakers, Wi-Fi, and charging, including features you may not use often.

A relatively recent purchase can still have wear or a fault. Equally, the fact that you are upgrading does not mean there is something wrong with the old computer. Describe what you can observe and answer the condition questions as they are written.

Mention known repairs or replacement-part messages before shipping. If a condition question does not fit your situation, ask for help instead of selecting the closest favorable answer.

Compare current offers after identifying the model

The original retail price and an advertised secondhand listing are different from an offer to buy your specific computer. Use an actual quote for the matching model and condition when deciding whether the sale makes sense for you.

Check what the offer requires, including the device description and any requested accessories. Do not buy an accessory just to include it without first confirming it is needed. Keep your own record of the configuration and observations you submitted.

Before sending the Mac, confirm your important files are available elsewhere and complete the appropriate account removal and erase process. Keep passwords and recovery information with you.

When you are ready, get a current quote for your MacBook Neo. If your exact configuration or condition is not available, contact GoRoostr before shipping. Starting with the right model makes the rest of the sale much easier to evaluate.
